Blurb From Goodreads:

Detective Mark Colby is used to being in charge whether it’s on the job, or in the bedroom. He knows the rules and follows them to the letter, that is until she steps into his station.

Detective Antonia Rossi has always had to fight her way to the top. Being the police commissioner’s daughter in a male-dominated profession has always come at a price. When she’s assigned as Mark’s new partner, she knows she’s in for a fight. Mark’s reputation for dominance proceeds him, and he makes no effort to hide it.

Can duty override desire, or will it end in a fiery crash of wills? Sometimes the crash is worth the burn.

My Review:

Pretty good story. A few things bothered me though. For a stand-alone story, I still felt a little lost with the other characters. And I don’t understand why Amber got her own point of view, she really wasn’t one of the main characters, and we don’t really get closure with her. At first, it seems like she is but I was left with many questions. And Mark, I wouldn’t want him as my book boyfriend. To me, he was just a selfish jerk that wasn’t willing to put any work into the relationship, quick to assume the worst without letting anyone explain anything. I already live with one of those, I don’t want to read about it. I was hoping with the issues that Amber and Mark were having that the story was going to show how they were able to work things out to get their HEA. Nope, that’s not what happens at all. Overall it was an interesting story but I just didn’t connect with the characters at all.

Blazing #BlogTour & #Review: Wicked Dirty by J. Kenner

Sometimes bad isn’t good enough…

On the outside, Lyle Tarpin is a clean-cut Hollywood actor whose star is on the rise. Inside, he’s battling his own demons, shunning relationships and finding solace in the arms of a string of anonymous women paid very well for their discretion.

But when he’s photographed in a compromising position by an over-eager reporter, the only way to save his career is to say that the woman he was with is his fiancée. And now Lyle has to play a very public game with the only woman who’s ever managed to get under his skin.

Struggling waitress Sugar Laine agrees to spend one night with Lyle—but only because she’s desperate to save her family home. She never expects that a night of passion will turn into a pretend engagement … or that the heat between them will blossom into love.

But sometimes love has a price.

And now the only question is—can Lyle and Sugar afford to pay it?

My blood pounds through my body, my heart beating so hard that I can feel the pressure not only against my ribs, but against the wall behind me. My lips are parted, my breath coming in shaky gasps.

He’s only inches away, so close I could reach out and touch that famous, gorgeous face. His eyes, as deep and blue as the summer sky, roam over me. He eases closer, moving slowly, his face reflecting a hunger that sends shivers through me.

Once again, my mind conjures the image of a hungry wolf. Only now I’m thinking that maybe getting eaten wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Besides, I’m here. Might as well enjoy it.

Then, of course, I remember exactly what it is.

Oh, God.

His fingertip brushes my forehead, and I almost jump out of my skin. I meet his eyes, see something that looks like irritation, and want to kick myself. I need to focus, dammit.

“You were somewhere else.” He speaks flatly, as if he’s working to keep all emotion out.

I shake my head, conjuring a lie. “I’m right here.” And then, because I’ve seen movies with call girls, I put my hand flat on his chest, trying to seem seductive. He’s wearing a gray T-shirt, and I can feel his heart beating beneath the planes of his muscled chest.

I read somewhere that he was getting in shape to play a superhero in an upcoming movie. And kudos to whoever’s orchestrating that transformation, because this guy is rock solid.

He’s still looking at me, and I fist my hand in the material of his shirt, needing an anchor against the storm of emotion I see playing out on his face. Desire. Hunger. Longing. Regret.

And pain. I see so much damn pain that I have to fight the urge to cup my palm against his cheek and tell him that whatever it is, it’s going to be okay.

Instead, I simply whisper, “Lyle?”

I’m not sure if it was the wrong thing or the right thing to say, but I know that it was unexpected. And before I can apologize or cover or say anything else at all, he is on me. One hand at my throat, the other hard on my breast. I’m pinned against the wall, helpless, as he claims my mouth again. Wildly. Brutally.

I try to think what I’m supposed to do—try to respond. But I’m trapped. I’m not Sugar. I’m not Laine. I’m not anyone. This isn’t about sex. It’s about pain and need and that storm of horrors I saw on his face. I might as well not even be here. And as his hand squeezes tight on my breast—as his mouth clashes so hard against mine that he draws blood—my only thought is that I shouldn’t have come at all. That this was stupid. Foolish. And that this night is going to leave me scarred.

I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to be what he wants. A warm body. An anonymous female.

But I can’t do it. I can’t do it at all.

All I can be is me. A woman desperate enough to have sex for money. A girl trying anything and everything to save her house. To protect her family’s memory.

I can be that girl.

But I can’t be nothing. I can’t be no one.

And as his hand tightens in my hair—as he kisses me violently—as his body presses hard against mine and I feel the steel of his erection—I know that I’ve made a terrible, horrible, awful mistake.

Stop!

REVIEW:

5 wings

As usual, I couldn’t put it down! And I’m so happy that we got to have Lyle’s story!! Damien is still my favorite but so far all the guys in the Stark world are awesome. Not a one isn’t book boyfriend material, and oh so swoon worthy. I love how we’ve heard of Lyle before, we know about as much about him as any other fan does, practically nothing. But we’ve met him, we know he’s hot and must be a good person since Damien likes him lol. And I loved getting to know him better!! But if you haven’t read any of the other Stark books, no worries, you aren’t going to be lost reading this stand-alone. But I do suggest you read them all!

Bombastic #BookBlitz: I Stole His Car by Jessica Frances

I Stole His Car
Jessica Frances
(Love at First Crime, #1)
Publication date: September 19th 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

She stole his car, so he stole her heart…

I saw something I never should have seen.

I took something they wanted back.

I was desperate.

Alone.

Hunted.

So, I did something I never would have normally done.

I stole a car.

Not just any car.

His car.

Now I have no choice but to trust him.

Only he can help me get out of this mess.

Then, when we both become hunted,

And when feelings begin to complicate things,

Can I still count on his protection?

Can I trust what is happening between us to be real?

Because, as some people say: there is nothing quite like love at first … crime.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

Then Zander’s gaze turns back to me, and I don’t feel so warm and fuzzy toward him anymore. Instead, I feel as though I’m facing a judge and ready to hear the verdict on just how many years I’m about to be thrown in jail.

“You stole my car,” he growls.

“Yes.” No point denying it.

“You kidnapped my twelve-year-old brother.”

“Technically, yes. However, I wasn’t aware he was in the car at the time,” I pathetically try to defend my actions.

“You came back, though, even after I told you I was calling the police.” His stance is stern, but I see the same expression of curiosity that I saw earlier in Van.

“Yes.” I glance around again, waiting to see the flashing lights of a police car approaching in the distance. Instead, I see a lone officer in uniform approaching us.

I don’t recognize him as one of Brian’s friends, but that doesn’t mean he won’t hand me over to him.

I barely even got to enjoy my freedom away from Brian. Well, it technically wasn’t freedom since I was chased the entire time.

Why can’t I just catch a break?

I can’t stop myself from stepping away from the young officer, my body back to being tense and shaky. I hate that this feels normal to me now. It never used to be. Now it feels strange to feel relaxed.

“What’s wrong?” Van asks me, his concern sweet.

“Excuse me, but did I just hear you accuse this woman of stealing your car?” the officer asks, swinging his hand to rest on his side arm in what looks like a reflex.

Silence falls over us. Van looks as panicked as I feel. I can’t read Zander’s face, but he hasn’t confirmed the man’s words. That gives me a small amount of hope. Maybe he is the most forgiving man in the world.

Blazing #BlogTour: Ann, Not Annie by Sage Steadman

Ann, Not Annie
Sage Steadman
Publication date: September 20th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult

Ann, not Annie, is tired of her nominal existence and has vowed to turn things around by dating the hottest guy in school, Jacob Waters. Easier said than done since Jacob isn’t even aware she exists. The truth is, due to Ann’s lively temper she spends more time in detention with the rest of the school rejects than she does fantasizing about Jacob Waters wearing spandex.

Her best friend and devout alien believer, Lisa, doesn’t like the changes she’s seeing in her BFF. Neither does Danny Feller, a fellow detention inmate and resident lost boy who has started keeping an extra watchful and unwanted eye on Ann.

When a chance encounter in an empty hallway changes everything, Ann finds all her dreams coming true and she is well on her way to living the perfect life she’s always wanted. But appearances aren’t always what they seem and Ann is going to have to face not just cold hard facts, but also her past.

Goodreads / Amazon

Book is on sale for $1.99 until the end of the tour only, then it will go up to 9.99!

EXCERPT:

From Chapter Four

Jacob looked back in Ann’s direction, smiled, and gave a head nod. Ann tried to smile, but it felt more like a scowl, so instead she gave a little wave. Suddenly she saw Bryce Singleton out of the corner of her eye. Jacob wasn’t nodding to her after all. Ann’s wave quickly turned into a wrist/arm stretch. She even yawned with disinterest for good measure.

“Lesbian,” Bryce leaned and whispered in her ear as he passed.

“Shut up, Bryce!” Ann said punching him in the arm.

“Ow!” Bryce laughed and grabbed his arm. “Watch it, Miss Firecracker.” He turned and sauntered off.

Ann sighed. “Shit.” She stomped over to Lisa’s car and climbed on the hood feeling skittish. The thing is, Ann had a thing for Jacob. I mean, every girl had a thing for Jacob, but for Ann it was different. She thought about him often. It was her secret shame, but she let it live because it was the only thing that connected her to the life she had before the accident, when she actually believed in the impossible. Her fantasies made her life bearable no matter how bizarre, embarrassing, or dark (in this case I’d say disturbing) they were.

Ann shamefully admitted to me one day that she did have a sort of boy fantasy involving the lead singer and occasionally the drummer of a rock band. I’m going to relay it to you here and add in a few of my own facetious details.

Scene: The lights dim, the steady thud of a drumbeat falls over the crowd, silencing them as searchlights fall upon a metallic drum set. Jacob Waters plays, the crowd screams (it’s her fantasy, not mine), he’s shirtless and wearing…spandex tights? (Maybe it’s a Bowie thing.) His fists grip the drumsticks as he pounds on the drumhead; his heart pounds with every beat; his body pours with sweat; his hair becomes wild as he bangs his head with the music. The set ends and Jacob jumps onto his chair, leaps over his drum set and launches into the crowd.

If you’re anything like me, at this point you might be wondering what this fantasy has to do with Ann. Well, you see, Ann is in the crowd. She’s screaming and singing and dancing as the drummer plays, and when he jumps into the crowd, he finds her. He chooses her. Every girl in that room wants the rock star, and the only person the rock star wants is Ann.

Yes, she’s embarrassed by this fantasy. Yes, she’s going to kill me when she reads this. Yes, she finds the fantasy shameful and has already undergone extensive psychoanalytical analysis over why she has it (although the analysis was done by Lisa, who eventually summed up her analysis by saying, “Yeah, that’s hot”).

Blazing #BlogTour: Across The Darkling Sea by K. Ferrin

Across the Darkling Sea
K. Ferrin
Publication date: November 12th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Across the Darkling Sea is the first book in the new serial fantasy series Magicfall, by K. Ferrin!

Magic is forbidden in Brielle, but that never stopped Evelyn. Until Now. Because Evelyn has discovered she is magic, and now she is running for her life.

Her only hope is on an island cloaked in shadow, an island of dark magic and even darker beasts. An island warlocks call home.

Evelyn’s friends have turned against her, her own mother tried to kill her, and the place she calls home has banished her. Hidden away in the belly of a riverboat, a stowaway, her journey begins.

Across the Darkling Sea is book one in a serial series. Each book is roughly 50,000 words or about 150 pages. To emphasize, this is a serial series, meaning it’s one story that stretches across multiple books.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

EXCERPT:

The haze had lifted as the first rays of the morning sun stretched across the wide, flat bottomlands of Brielle and lit up the boardwalks of Meuse. The day-shift boatsmyn were at their work, and the boatsmyn they’d just relieved from duty were sipping stew as they lounged at their leisure before seeking their beds. The shopkeeps were out as well, setting out goods and sweeping the night’s debris from the walkways in front of their stores.

Her hood had fallen askew when Hanner had grabbed her, and Evelyn wished fervently she could free her arms enough to pull it back over her face. Every person they passed stopped to stare as Hanner hauled her through town. Evelyn expected at least a few smiles, but all she saw were narrowed lips and hostile gazes.

Fear quivered in her belly. They couldn’t all know. Maybe her parents had figured it out, but there was no way everyone could have discovered her secret.

“Let me go. Now.” She put steel into her voice. She’d seen her mother reduce grown men to tears, and she tried to channel that force now. Hanner grunted in response.

“My mother will fire you for this!”

Hanner didn’t even grunt this time. Instead he carried her over to an oversized wooden chair that someone had placed outside the town lockup. Her head cracked against the back of the chair as he shoved her into it. He snapped leather straps over her wrists and feet, pulling them so tight she could feel the straps cutting into her flesh.

Stark fear flooded through her. She had no idea what was happening. The harshest punishment for magic involved banishment, but not torture.

“Ow! Hanner, what are you doing? My mother will flay you alive for this! She hired you to enforce the law, not abuse her daughter!”

People were filing into the small area in front of the lockup now. Miss Tansey, the woman who owned the bread shop and had snuck Evelyn sweet pastries every day for as long as she could remember. Snider, who’d shown up ten years before with no money and no name but who’d ended up being the best cobbler the town had ever had.

“Let. Me. Go!” She punctuated each word with a yank, trying to free herself from the binds Hanner had used. It was no use. She wouldn’t get out of this chair until someone let her out.

She scanned the crowd. Rudy was there. Rudy, her dearest friend, a florist who created the most beautiful arrangements for her to paint. And Shera, who passed her notes all day long at school and waded out into the swamp with Evelyn to paint and gossip during the summers. Fernon, her father’s barber, and his partner, Bran, both of whom had shared meals and stories with Evelyn and her parents on multiple occasions. They were people she’d known her entire life.

“Rudy, Shera. Get my mother! Help me out of this thing!”

The crowd simply stared back at her. Some, like Miss Tansey, gazed at her with the cold regard a snake gives the rat it’s about to eat for dinner. Others, like Rudy, shifted their feet and slanted their gazes away, ashamed, afraid, unwilling to help. Shera stared impassively, pale but dry-eyed.

“Shut up, shut up, shut up! I’m sick of your filthy patter!”

Evelyn did shut up then. She forgot how to speak. Forgot what words were. Forgot how to breathe. She could only stare as her mother came into view from somewhere behind her.

Author Bio:

K. Ferrin spends her days surrounded by engineers, technology, and humming machinery, but her evenings are steeped in magic, myth, and adventure. She writes fantasy, loves gardening, and eats way too much pie. She lives at the foot of the Colorado Rockies with her husband and two pooches.

Her novels include the stand alone YA fantasy novel Magicless, as well as Across the Darkling Sea, and A Dying Land, the first two books of a series. You can find her online at http://www.kferrin.com.

Bombastic #BookBlitz: Five by J.A Huss

Five
J.A. Huss
(Mister 0.5)
Publication date: September 19th 2017
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Five Aston has known Rory Shrike for as long as he can remember. He played with her in the sandbox. He went to every damn horse show just to be supportive. He helped her with her French, walked her home from school, and faked his test scores just to stay with her a little longer and not be sent off to college early.

But eventually he had to move on.

And so did she.

Never has a second chance meant so much to a boy who loves a girl.

A standalone book that is also a spin-off of the Rook & Ronin Series and prequel to the Mister Series. You can read it first, you can read it last. It doesn’t really matter because it’s f*cking Five.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“You want a kiss?”

“Mmmhmm,” I say, closing my eyes as I picture it. God, I’ve dreamed of this moment for ages. “I really need one, Five.”

His mouth touches my earlobe. Lips caress the soft skin of my neck. “Like this?” he asks.

“Yes,” I practically moan. “Just… like… that.”

“Do you want more, Princess?” he asks, his voice low now. Growly. Filled with so much promise.

“More, please,” I say, in my sweetest princess voice.

“Then promise me, baby. Just say those two words. ‘I promise.’ And as soon as you do that, I’ll give you everything you want. OK?”

“Five,” I moan. “Just—”

His hands come up suddenly. He cups my face, stares into my eyes with the most sincere expression I’ve ever seen on him. And underneath that sincerity, I see… fear. “Promise me.”

“Five,” I say, unable to stop staring back. This is everything. Everything I’ve always dreamed of. Five pressing me up against a wall. Me, the only thing on his mind. Except I’m not the only thing on his mind, am I? No. Those creeps from the past are back. That’s why he’s here. And even though I’d normally not give in so easy, I know this is not a game. So I say, “I promise. Now stop talking, you stupid genius, and kiss me already.”

He smiles. Leans in. I close my eyes, ready for it. Finally gonna get what I want.

But then he moves his mouth to my ear and nibbles on my lobe. “Good girl,” he coos. “But I’m not sure I believe you, Princess. I can feel those wheels turning inside your head. They’re grinding hard.” He presses his hard cock against my hip when he says that last part. “So I’m gonna hold off on that kiss until I get back tonight. And if you’ve been good, and if you’ve held up your end of the—”

“What?” I say, pushing him back. “You will do no such thing, Five Aston! I want a fucking kiss and I want one right now! I’ve waited six years for this, and denying me is practically emotional abuse. Now stop fucking around and kiss me, goddammit!”

“Who’s the boss of you, Rory?”

I huff out some air. “Me.”

He smiles. It’s a big, genuine, I’m-gonna-teach-you-who’s-boss smile. “Wrong answer.”

Rapturous #Release #Blitz: Shush I’m Reading by Dawn A. Keane

Title: Shush I’m Reading
Author: Dawn A Keane
Release Date: September 20th, 2017
Genre: New adult romance/ Fantasy romance

Dealing with a neurotic, overbearing mother, an uninvited cat and staring at double D’s all day, it’s no wonder 24-year-old Billie Angel finds herself lost in a fantasy world more often than not.

With her not so smart phone glued firmly to her hip, Billie’s life revolves around her reading apps. Chided for having her face stuck in her screen for more hours than she cares to count, Billie soon discovers that not all fantasies are in her head.

Enamored by the charismatic Hunter Williams, Billie finds herself unmistakably living the dream like something from the pages of a book. Not knowing her up from her down, Billie walks the tightrope that is the fine line between fiction and fact.

What happens when Billie finally wakes up and finds herself firmly on solid ground? Is Hunter really the man fantasies are made of, or the reality of something more?

A metaphysical romantic fantasy that will have readers rooting for Billie, a fellow bookworm!

Prologue

MY EYES WIDEN. Pressing my hand against my chest, I stare, taking in my surroundings. The huge old library in my hometown has always fascinated me. Reaching out my other hand, I touch the books on the shelves, running my fingertips along their spines. Hundreds, upon hundreds, of books that have probably been read hundreds, upon hundreds, of times. Changing so many people’s lives within a few hours or days of being read. So many different stories between those pages.

I gaze at the multitude of fantasies in utter awe.

My fingers trace their way down over the letters of the title on the paperback I’ve picked up. I don’t want to go home yet. I don’t want to hang around on the streets with my school friends. I want to run away, escape, forget about being a teenager, and forget my mum-who cares more about where her next drink is coming from than she does about me.
I need to get out of my head for a while, and this is the only way I know how.

When my dad read to me when I was small, I would get lost in the words, in the story. My imagination would take me away to another world and follow me into my dreams.

And that’s why I’m here now-this is what I need, and this is where I belong. There is where I want to stay, and I do. I spend my days with my nose stuck in a book.

I was brought up in Manchester and I am now living in the beautiful Scottish borders with my three children.

I have enjoyed writing my story as I had a pretty hard upbringing and have suffered like everyone does over the years in different situations, but everyone has a story to tell.

I just hope my story can help someone out there who is, or has been through the same sort of situations as myself.
