Experience the world’s most enchanting and timeless love story—retold with a dark and realistic twist.

A BEAST LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF HIS PAST

Reclusive and severely scarred Prince Adam Delacroix has remained hidden inside a secluded, decrepit castle ever since he witnessed his family’s brutal massacre. Cloaked in shadow, with only the lamentations of past ghosts for company, he has abandoned all hope, allowing the world to believe he died on that tragic eve twenty-five years ago.

A BEAUTY IN PURSUIT OF A BETTER FUTURE

Caught in a fierce snowstorm, beautiful and strong-willed Isabelle Rose seeks shelter at a castle—unaware that its beastly and disfigured master is much more than he appears to be. When he imprisons her gravely ill and blind father, she bravely offers herself in his place.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Stripped of his emotional defenses, Adam’s humanity reawakens as he encounters a kindred soul in Isabelle. Together they will wade through darkness and discover beauty and passion in the most unlikely of places. But when a monster from Isabelle’s former life threatens their new love, Demrov’s forgotten prince must emerge from his shadows and face the world once more…

Perfect for fans of Beauty and the Beast and The Phantom of the Opera, Beauty of the Beast brings a familiar and well-loved fairy tale to life with a rich setting in the kingdom of Demrov and a captivating, Gothic voice.

* * *

Beauty of the Beast is the first standalone installment in a series of classic fairy tales reimagined with a dark and realistic twist.

Disclaimer: This is an edgy, historical romance retelling of the classic fairy tale. Due to strong sexual content, profanity, and dark subject matter, including an instance of sexual assault committed by the villain, Beauty of the Beast is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Review:

Well, as soon as I realized this was a Beauty and the Beast retelling I had to read it and I’m so glad I did. There isn’t really any magic or fantasy, other than the roses being in bloom all the time, but it’s still a magical story. The “beast” is just a man, but being burned has left him looking like a monster. Adam has locked himself away from the world and would prefer to stay that way until one stormy night brings unwanted guests knocking on his door, Isabelle and her sick father. There are many similarities to the Disney movie and I loved that, especially the library, but there were enough differences that had me wondering what was going to happen next. Beautiful story!

My Review:

Warning!!! Make sure to clear your day and have tissues at the ready for this one won’t let you go even after you’ve finished the last page. I could not put this down, so much happens in what seems like a very short amount of time. I’m still trying to get over my book hangover. I think I like torturing myself, or maybe it’s the author, I’m not sure. Part of me wishes that I’d wait for a few more books to come out before continuing but I just can’t do it. This is such an awesome series!! I can’t believe some of what happened in this installment. There’s good news, bad news, happy news and sad news that I’m just having trouble getting over some of it. I haven’t picked up a book since I finished it yesterday. The thing with Valmont, and the other thing with Jaxon, then the family. I’m still just floored by what happened and I feel lost. Which means I really need the next book soon but I know that won’t be possible any time soon (sobs uncontrollably, not really but yea).

Favorite Quotes:

—“I can either pace, or I can rip someone’s head off. Which would you prefer?”                  “Can we choose whose head you rip off?” Valmont asked. “Because that might affect our preference.”

—He retrieved the manual and rolled it up like he planned to swat a fly. Ferrin was a pest. She doubted whacking him with a rolled-up manual would do any good, but it might be fun to watch.

But one thing is the same—that shooting will still happen at the end of the week.

I’m the only one who knows. Which means I’m the only one who can stop it.

But first I need to convince someone—anyone—that I’m telling the truth… and then get them to help me.

My Review:

This was a very fast paced, exciting book. Although, I figured out who it was before it was revealed the rest of the story was very interesting. My only problem was the ending, for me there wasn’t any closure and that bothers me. I want to know what happened along with why it happened. Plus some of it didn’t make sense, but I don’t want to give anything away so you’ll have to read it to find out. The premise of the story was awesome, almost like Ground Hogs Day but instead of just repeating one day it was a parallel universe and it wasn’t a continuous repeat. I really liked the characters and was torn between the two guys, both being awesome book boyfriends. I would’ve loved to give this 5 stars but there were just too many questions that remained unanswered, but don’t let that deter you from reading it!

My Review:

Noooo!! It’s over!? This was such an awesome series! Even though each book was about a different character there was one main plot that continued, so you really have to read this one in order. And as usual, Ms. Jay delivers a steamy romance with enough suspense to keep you on your toes. This is definitely one series that will forever be on my TBR list no matter how many times I read it! And there’s good news, spin-off series!! I can’t wait to visit this world again and meet new characters while hopefully still getting to “see” some “old friends” from the original series. Now I just have to deal with the withdrawals until the new series comes out.

My Review:

Wow, where do I start? This was obviously the first book in the series, it mostly just dealt with the building of the world and getting to know the characters. I’m not complaining, it was hard to put down. Selena has secrets that are kept from everyone, even the reader. Which of course keeps me glued to the page hoping to find out. There isn’t much action until close to the end but it was one of those “oh crap, it’s over?”. And then there’s the crash when you realize the next book isn’t due until later this year, argh. I emailed the author as soon as I was done asking when the next book came out. Dang book hangover, I want more! I loved the characters, the sisters are loyal and the differences in their personalities was so realistic. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

Logan Marsh never stays in one place for long. Through his family’s foundation, Logan spends his days traveling to the world’s most dangerous places to deliver disaster relief, which really puts a damper on his sex life—until he reconnects with his high-school crush. So we finally get to meet Logan, I call dibs!! Although realistically I’ll take all of them. This series is just amazing, each book can stand on it’s own but we learn so much about each of them that you won’t want to miss a single one. Logan is so focused on saving people that he doesn’t stay in one spot for long. He’s so selfless that he sacrifices doing what he wants or needs for himself. It just makes your heart melt even though you want to smack the crap out of him. What drew me to this series was the name, Naked Men. Of course my mind strayed into the gutter, well, it’s pretty much always there so it wasn’t that much of a stray lol. This is a must read series that is so well written that you’ll forget that it’s not real. I don’t know how many times I had to stop myself from looking up their blog or broadcast, sigh. I’m not sure how Darynda Jones does it but I swear each book just keeps getting better and better. This one ends with quite the doozy! Total scream moment with a dash of despair since the next book isn’t out yet, argh! But I absolutely LOVED it!!! Although, the cliffhanger really isn’t needed, there’s no way that I would not read the next book, just saying. I get it though, as much as I hate cliffhangers, I have to admit I secretly like them. It helps keep the story in the back of my mind while I anxiously await the next book. I don’t think I could forget this ending if I wanted to (and part of me does cuz OMG YOU CAN’T END IT THERE!!!!!).

Heart spacer

Author Bio:

For reasons known only to the Big Guy upstairs, NYTimes and USA Today Best Selling author Darynda Jones won both a Golden Heart and a RITA for her manuscript FIRST GRAVE ON THE RIGHT. But even before that, she couldn’t remember a time she wasn’t putting pen to paper. When she was five, she would pick up a pencil and notepad, scribble utter chaos onto the page and ask her mom to read her masterpiece aloud. Thankfully, her mother would play along.  Later she wrote plays for the neighborhood kids, made up stories for her brother as he played cars, and fell in love with Captain Kirk. Those raging, seven-year-old hormones only fueled her imagination, prompting her to create fantastical stories for Barbie and Ken to enact. Ken was such a bad boy back then.

After years of being repeatedly sent to the principal’s office for daydreaming in class, she managed to make it to high school where she almost finished her first manuscript. Sitting with her BFF in a corner booth at the local Tastee Freeze for hours at a time, she wrote a post-apocalyptic story about a group of teens who bore a remarkable resemblance to the members of Van Halen and were trying to escape the tunnels of a huge government fallout facility decades after World War III had destroyed the surface of the earth. It was a science fiction version of The Warriors and destined to be a classic.

Life was good. Writing was good. Then she graduated and the real world came crashing through. She forced the dream aside in favor of sustenance and shelter, got married to a local rock star, and had at least two kids that she can think of, the oldest of whom was born Deaf, probably to spite her. When he was five, she packed up her boys and moved to Albuquerque to put him in a Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing program. The rock star stayed behind with the business, and they took turns going back and forth on the weekends to see each other for seven really long years.

While in Albuquerque, Darynda decided to see the cup half full and go back to college while she still had enough brain cells to make it worth her while. After graduating Summa cum Laude from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Sign Language Interpreting, she moved back to her hometown and got a real job. Several in fact, mostly teaching at a local college and interpreting pretty much everywhere. Based on personal experience, she does not recommend having more than three jobs at any given time.

But bit by bit, the desire to write needled its way back to the surface. Unable to squelch it any longer, she started writing seriously again in 2002 with one goal in mind: A publishing contract. Unfortunately, she sucked. Thank goodness practice makes almost-perfect and three complete manuscripts later, she won that Golden Heart, landed an amazing agent and sold to St. Martin’s Press in a three-book deal.

She currently has two series with St. Martin’s Press, the Charley Davidson series and the Darklight Trilogy. She hopes you enjoy reading them as much as she enjoys writing them.

Darynda lives in the Land of Enchantment, also known as New Mexico, with her husband of almost 30 years and two beautiful sons, the Mighty, Mighty Jones Boys.
