Understudies never get to perform

. . . which is why being Juliet’s understudy in the school’s yearly “Evening with Shakespeare” is the perfect role for Emily. She can earn some much-needed extra credit while pursuing her main goal of spending time with Wes, aka Romeo, aka the hottest, nicest guy in school (in her completely unbiased opinion). And she meant to learn her lines, really, it’s just:

a) Shakespeare is HARD,

b) Amanda, aka the “real” Juliet, makes her run errands instead of lines, and

c) there’s no point because Amanda would never miss the chance to be the star of the show.

Then, Amanda ends up in the hospital and Emily, as the (completely unprepared!) understudy, has to star opposite the guy of her dreams. Oops?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / iBooks

EXCERPT:

She was probably going to kill me now but thank me later, because like it or not I was going to help her romance along. “I was asking her about the dance.” I pulled a flyer out of my bag. I still had a bunch from when Amanda made me pass them out. “It’s Friday. I helped organize it, and I want Jill to go. Maybe you can help me convince her?”

Jill dug her heel into my foot, but I wasn’t one to let a little pain stop me. My love life was a question mark, but that didn’t mean my friend couldn’t wind up with the guy of her dreams.

“I’ve never been to one of the dances,” Seth said.

“Really?” Jill asked.

He shrugged. “I’m not a great dancer.”

“That’s not a problem,” I butted in. “Jill can teach you. She’s awesome.”

“Yeah?” he asked.

“I wouldn’t say awesome,” she answered, and this time it was my turn to kick her. She had the perfect opening and was blowing it. “But . . . ” she snapped out of her stupor. “I’m okay. I’d definitely show you. If you wanted.”

Seth stole a glance at her. “It could be fun. Sure.”

“Cool,” she said, sneaking a look back.

“Great, it’s a date,” I chimed in so there would be no confusion later on.

Jill stomped on my foot extrahard this time, but I knew she was happy. Not only did I help snag her a date to the dance, but I also saved her countless hours of wondering if they were going as friends, dance teacher/dance student, or as a couple.

I was tempted to butt in some more, but I didn’t think my foot could handle another Jill hit, so I left them alone and went back to obsessing over my own problem. What was Wes going to think about my tagging his brother? I hated GroupIt. Why hadn’t I been faster to log back on? If only I had taken the tag off the photo before Neal commented. I cringed when I thought about what he wrote. Cool, Emily, I like older women. Then he threw in a winky face. My name was now emblazoned for posterity under his picture. I thought about messaging him to take it down. But it didn’t really matter. Either way, he was bound to tell his brother. Neal didn’t know me; our only real connection was Wes. If he was as smart as everyone said he was, he’d definitely put two and two together. So there was basically no getting around it. I had to own up to everything. Lunch couldn’t come fast enough.

After class, Jill held me back. “What was that?”

“My paying back my best friend. I told you I’d make it up to you.”

“And did you ever.” A huge smile spread over her face. “I just got a date with Seth. I think I’m in shock. Over-the-moon, ecstatic shock. Now we just have to get things right with you and Wes.”

“I know,” I said, and I linked arms with her. “And I had a lot of time to think while you and Seth were busy swooning over each other. I know what I’m going to do. I’m just going to fess up that I was looking at his brother’s pics because I wanted to know more about his family, because I like him. Then I’m going to do it.”

“Do what?”

“Ask him to the dance.”

I, Emily Stein, was about to pour my heart out to Wes Rosenthal and pray he didn’t break it.

Taking Turns
J.A. Huss
(Turning #1)
Publication date: January 18th 2017
Genres: Erotica, Romance, Suspense

Chella plays the game of Taking Turns with three men as she comes to terms with her sexuality.

I’ve never been afraid of the dark…but that doesn’t mean I wanted to live in it. And maybe everyone wants what they can’t have, but I should’ve thought it over before I accepted the key and unlocked the door to their forbidden world.

Number One is mostly silent. He watches me with them very carefully. His gaze never wanders. His interest never wanes.

Number Two is mostly gentle. But it’s the other side of him I like best. The wild side.

Number Three is mostly reserved. He refuses to cross the line. Even when I beg.

It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That’s it. That’s all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden.

I just didn’t expect to like them.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“I don’t know where she is. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you. If she wanted you guys to know where she went and what she was doing, she’d have left a note.”

“OK. That’s fine. I accept that. All we need to know is if she’s all right. That’s it. Was she stressed out?”

Marcella thinks about this for a moment and then says, “Yes. I’d call her stressed out.”

“Do you think she was afraid?”

More thoughtful consideration from Marcella. “I don’t know if I’d call it afraid. But she was crying when we talked that afternoon.”

“Do you know why?”

Marcella shakes her head no.

“No idea at all? I mean, come on, Marcella. We love her, OK? Not equally and not all in the same way. But we love her. We need to know if she needs our help.”

“She did not confide in me, Mr. Bricman—”

“Bric,” I say. “Just call me Bric.”

Marcella sighs. “I don’t have the answer you need. I promise, I’d tell you if I thought she was in trouble and needed help. I think she has something going on. For sure. But I got the feeling she was handling it.”

I nod my head and take a seat on one of the bar stools. “And you? You came upstairs…”

“I don’t want to talk about it. It was obviously a mistake.”

“Maybe,” I say. “Maybe not.”

“Your friend is weird, Bric. I’m not getting involved with him.”

“Then why did you let Quin fuck you?”

She blows out a long breath of air.

“I’m not trying to be mean, Marcella. I’m trying to understand. And I’m trying to figure out if you’re interested.”

“Interested?” She laughs. “In that sex game you were playing with Rochelle?”

“If you knew about it—and you clearly did—and you didn’t want to partake—again, you clearly did—then why let Quin fuck you?”

Marcella leans her hip into the granite counter next to the stove and folds her arms across her chest. “What do you want me to say? I was horny? It sounded dirty and I wanted to get in on it?”

“That would be a good start.”

She grunts in denial.

“We’re interested, Marcella. That’s why I’m here. We are interested.”

“You need a replacement before the weekend?”

“I have never seen Rochelle on the weekends. I have Wednesdays and Thursdays.”

“Oh.” She laughs. “My mistake. You need a fuck buddy before tomorrow?”

“Can you just be serious for a minute?”

“Sure,” she says. “Sure. Let’s be serious about what you’re offering me. You and your friends want to own me. Share me. Fuck me senseless, any way you want. Let’s get serious about this.”

“You don’t have to be condescending.” I shrug. “Some people like the dark side of sex. And let’s get real as long as we’re getting serious. You like the dark side, Marcella.” I get up and walk around the island so I’m standing in front of her. “You like the forbidden world we live in. Because if you didn’t, you’d never have agreed to whatever plan Rochelle sold you. So why don’t you just shut the fuck up with your holy self-righteous attitude and listen to my offer.”

“You have some nerve coming here—”

I grab her face with one hand, my thumb pressing into her jaw and my forefinger wrapping under her chin. “Shut. The fuck. Up.”

She breathes hard and heavy, but she doesn’t do anything but obey.

“That’s better,” I say, letting go of her face. “I’m going to pick you up on Friday and we’re going on a date.”

“I’m working Friday,” she says. Her voice is smaller now. Slightly—not all the way, but slightly—submissive.

“I know.” I’m trying my best to be patient with her. “The gallery. We know Matisse. We’re all going to that opening. So I’m going to pick you up at five-thirty and you and I are going to go together.”

“You and I?” she asks.

“Quin and Smith will be there, but you are my date. Understand?”

She says nothing, so I wait her out. When the seconds continue to tick off with no answer from her, I explain it another way. “It’s a job interview, Marcella.”

“A job?” She pulls away from me, her upper body leaning back against the granite countertop.

“A job with lots of benefits.”

Because I’m that kind of woman.

You should delete my videos, Oliver Shrike. It’s your job to keep that dating site on the up and up.

But you don’t, do you?

You watch them. You get off to them. You crave them.

EXCERPT:

I stand in front of the tub, each of the three cameras already recording, and shrug the details off with my robe. Once the silky fabric slides over my shoulders it slips down my body in a silent whoosh of air, and makes a soft green puddle of fabric at my feet.

I say nothing. I will say nothing. Let him guess what I’m thinking.

It’s only fair. I’ve been guessing what he’s been thinking since we parted ways four years ago.

I pose for the camera. Something I do naturally now. Taking a moment to imagine myself staring into his eyes. I forgo the pouty lips and play air-kisses and just stand there. Let him appreciate me. Let him think about all the days and nights we’ve been apart. Let him wonder what I’ve been doing.

I start fondling my breasts, pinching my nipples to make them hard and bunched. My nails are just long enough, and the steam inside the bathroom just hot enough, to leave red marks on my fair skin.

He likes that. He likes the animalistic nature of sex.

I find myself unconsciously biting my lip and stop.

I am not a weak little girl. I am not trying to seduce him, or entice him, or make him want me.

He already wants me.

None of that play-acting stuff matters with Oliver Shrike. Everything with him needs to be genuine.

One hand continues to lightly scrape the skin of my breasts, while the other tracks down my ribcage with just enough pressure to make marks. It slips easily between my legs and only then do I let myself become aroused.

My lips part as my mouth opens. My heart beats faster. My skin prickles up, even though the heat in this room leaves no room for chills.

I will not moan for him. Not on camera. If he wants more he needs to come to me.

But I do enjoy it.

When the tips of my fingers find the sweet spot I smile and rub a little faster.

Do you like that? I want to ask him. Do you enjoy looking at me? Watching me? Do you want more? Do you want to feel me again? My body, my breath on the tip of your cock?

I come. Silently. He might not even notice, that’s how quiet I am.

And then I open my eyes and smile as I step into the tub. Sink down into the frothy white bubbles and let the hot water burn me. Turn my pale skin red, make my cheeks flush, relax my muscles, and ease my worries.

Author Interview:

  1. How long have you been writing?

I have been writing for about 11 years. A few months after I came to prison, I started scribbling my thoughts and that’s how I started.

  1. Where did your love of storytelling come from?

It came mostly from personal experience. All of those memories which were stored inside of me since the beginning of my life, started bursting at the seems, and that’s how I found a way to spill them out.

  1. What was the hardest part of writing this book?

Reflecting on the past and reliving all those horrific memories.

  1. What inspires you?

Anything can inspire me. I can see a star, a sunset, a bird, and and all those ideas came pouring out.

  1. Who inspires you?

God. Everything comes from Him. One moment there’s nothing in your head; another moment and all those words and scenes and ideas start forming.

  1. What are some day jobs that you have held?  If any of them impacted your writing, share an example.

I was a capitalist at heart since my early age. In war torn Bosnia I was buying and selling cigarettes… when I came to US, I worked in a hotel as a houseman and bellboy, until I saved enough money to start my own car dealership. And throughout my fiction you can see references to various business(real estate, bitcoins) … most of which I was involved with.

  1. What do you like to read in your free time?

I like real-life stories. In them there’s temporary escape, and when you read them, you forget about your own problems when you learn that someone had it worse than you. In those stories you’ll find inspiration, motivation, hope.

  1. Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?

Not really. I just write. Sometimes a page. Sometimes two. Or when inspiration strikes 5. But I don’t have a set amount. The most important thing is to be engaged with your writing. Even if you’re not writing, you’re thinking about the plot, characters, scenes.

  1. What is your favorite motivational phrase?

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

  1. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

See above. Never give up! Keep writing, keep submitting, keep striving. All that persistence and determination will pay off in the end.

Engaged to an Alien Pop Star
Kendra L. Saunders
(Alien Pop Star, #2)
Published by: Crimson Tree Publishing
Publication date: November 28th 2016
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance, Science Fiction

Daisy Kirkwood and her best friend Kammie have adjusted to life on an alien planet pretty well, all things considered. And thanks to Daisy’s alien pop star boyfriend, Griffin Valentino, she has plenty of sexy new experiences to keep her busy. But it’s not possible to take a massive music nerd away from her home planet and not expect her to pine for a concert or a record store at least in once in a while.

Heading back to Earth with Griffin and his best friend Dev for a brief but much-needed visit, the girls want nothing more than to catch up on the underground music scene of New York City. Unfortunately, thanks to Griffin’s less-than-stellar space traveling skills, they accidentally pick up a hitchhiker. Or three hundred. Their many-legged stowaway beasties take up residence in the darkest, creepiest corners of Manhattan, leaving the gang no choice but to experience a very different underground than they bargained for.

Giant alien bugs aside, Griffin has some epic plans of his own for their trip, plans that involve a concert, an album… and the most outrageous marriage proposal that Earth has ever seen.

EXCERPT:

Valley of Love is an adventurous adult toy store in Greenwich Village, known as much for their insanely creative window displays as for their wide selection of unusual bondage wares. I’ve been there a few times at the insistence of Kammie, but I’ve always been too chicken to even think about buying anything. I’ve wanted to, but…

“Look at this,” Griffin says.

He’s already removing stuff from the bag, intent on his work and dropping his purchases by the handful onto our bed. He pauses, studying something that looks like a bottle of purple jelly, and then continues on. “There’s a vibrating ring in here, but the sodding thing’s too big for any of my fingers.”

Oh my God.

“I found this it at the counter. It says for her. So I got it for you.” He holds up a bottle of pink lube, his mouth tipped into a mega-smirk. I know, without a doubt, that he has no idea what that or anything else in that bag is. I don’t even know what a few of the things are. He picks up a bottle that says Attraction Spray and squirts it all over his body, then sniffs at the air with a pleased look. “Well, do you like everything? The shopkeeper said all of it is very good for couples.”

Moving closer and surveying the items spread across the bed, I can’t help grinning. “Oh, there’s no doubt that a lot of this is great for couples, Griffin. Couples made up of two men.”

Griffin squints at me. “How do you mean—two men? These are beads, Daisy.”

“Did the shopkeeper tell you what those were for? Or what any of this is for?”

At this, Griffin’s white face flushes red, the blush creeping clear to his ears. He drops the spray bottle onto the bed. “Well, of course not. I didn’t need him to tell me!”

He really has no idea. And Griffin being Griffin, he didn’t want to ask anyone, because that would mean admitting something was unfamiliar to him. “Griff, I think the shopkeeper assumed that since you were in the store with Dev, you two were a couple. He thought you were buying these things for yourselves.”

“Me and Dev,” Griffin splutters. “Me and Dev, a couple? Rubbish!”

“Well, do you know what any of this is?”

Griffin scowls at me. “Course I do!”

That’s it—I can’t contain the laughter anymore. I walk to him, gently taking hold of his hands and hoping his feelings won’t get hurt by my amusement. “I’m a little confused why you went into Valley of Love in the first place if you… well, if these things are unfamiliar to you.”

Suddenly, a bad thought hits me. My laughter dies in my throat, only to be replaced by a subtle sick feeling.

Griffin’s attracted to who he’s attracted to, regardless of gender, station, or home planet. This has, until now, made me feel rather proud that he chose me out of everyone across the universe. But has something changed? Is he getting bored of me already? Have I just been a glorious novelty for him, another alien girl he’s now figured out and wants to move on from? Has he decided he needs toys to keep our relationship interesting?

Griffin pulls his hands away from me, blushing even redder. “The shop window had a sparkling yellow elephant in it,” he says at last, idly reaching for the bottle of Attraction Spray and looking particularly miserable. “I went inside to have a better look, and then realized it’s a shop with gifts for your lover. I wanted to surprise you.”

Relief floods through me, and I step closer to take his face in my hands. “That was really sweet of you, Griff, wanting to surprise me.”

He lets out a little puff of air, shoulders falling. “But you said it’s all wrong!”

I lean forward and press a kiss to his lips. “Not wrong—some of it just might not be useful for the two of us.” I glance at the bag. “However, I can definitely show you how to use some of it…”

Clever #CoverReveal: The Romeo Catchers by Alys Arden

Cover Reveal

The Romeo Catchers
Alys Arden
(The Casquette Girls #2)
Published by: Skyscape
Publication date: May 23rd 2017
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Tormented by the fate she condemned her mother to, and by the lies she’s forced to tell to cover it up, Adele scours Storm-ravaged New Orleans for the truth about her family’s magical past. But every turn leads her back to the one person she’s determined to forget: Niccolò Medici. Not even the multitude of enchanted locks on the attic door trapping Nicco within can break their connection.

Sensing Nicco calling to Adele, Isaac tries relentlessly to keep her from exploring paths too dark that would endanger them all. But a new threat is rising: the Medici’s presence has attracted something else to New Orleans…an older enemy, one that will bring Isaac’s haunted past to life, test the witches’ friendships, and jeopardize Adele and Isaac’s blossoming relationship.

In this spellbinding continuation of The Casquette Girls saga, Adele must draw on the past—from seventeenth-century Florence, a time bubbling with alchemy and fraternal betrayal—and sort history from fantasy if she is to have any chance of saving her mother, her coven, and her magic.
