Blurb:
Fourteen-year-old Callum Silver sees dead people. It’s not a gift. His family thinks he’s crazy. Sometimes he thinks he’s crazy. He has no friends. He’s forced to live his life surrounded by nothing but the searing pain, sickening smells and desperate moans that accompany the murdered ghosts who seek him out.
When he’s offered a place at Camp Wanagi, the ten weeks in the French countryside isn’t a vacation, it’s a lifeline. A way to meet others like himself and prove his ability can offer more than years of loneliness and expensive therapy bills.
Run by a mysterious group known as the Oracle of Senders, Camp Wanagi brings together teens from around the globe who all possess the unique ability to see the dead. While Cal is relieved to find others like him, he learns quickly that not everybody experiences the spirits as he does. Some of the campers revere their abilities and don’t understand his hesitation, while others—like quiet bookworm Meander Rhoades—have good reason for wishing they could get rid of their ‘gifts’.
While researching their final project, Cal and Meander find an unmarked grave which reveals aspects of their abilities neither knew existed, forcing Cal to decide if the torture of seeing ghosts is worthwhile and, more importantly, if being a part of the Oracle of Senders is necessary, dangerous…or both.

Bombastic #BookBlitz: Wings of Flesh and Bones by Cathrina Constantine

Wings of Flesh and Bones
Cathrina Constantine
Publication date: April 13th 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.

Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course, until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.

Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

I’m breaking Castle’s rules. Do I care? Not really—not yet.

Rogan’s skin prickled as she snuck through the portal leading to the city, exhilarated to be patrolling on her own for once. She walked along the sidewalk on her way to Pink, a dance club for teenagers. Although, her choice in destination would not involve dancing or enjoying the hyperactive ambiance. No, she was primed and ready to release bottled-up steam threatening her peace of mind. Deviants would be mingling with humans, and she’d be there to put a stop to it.

Crisp autumn air stirred. Inhaling its musky scent, she noticed the lengthening shadows, and prayed to be home before she was missed. I’m seventeen, she thought with pride, a gatekeeper. At least, that was what she’d been training for.

Keeping her eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary, she tossed her braided hair over her shoulder, catching a few heads turning to look at her. You’d think they’d never seen a girl wearing leather and boots before.

A pungent odor pressed in on her, which stopped her in her tracks. Up ahead, blocking the sidewalk, was a giant of a man. The fortuitous encounter took her by surprise, sending her creepster vibes off the charts. With her legs rooted in a rigid stance, she flexed her fingers. As if the giant had been awaiting her arrival, he approached in a blur of motion, whipping his knuckled fist and clipping her on the chin.

Grimacing, her eyes watered as blood pooled over her tongue. She spat a mouthful onto the sidewalk and moved her throbbing jaw from side to side.

She recognized the Vorg towering over her, jutting his demon chin at a superior angle. To humans, he looked like an unnatural hulk of a man, but Rogan saw past his artificial veneer.

“Had enough, sweetmeat?” His sandpapery voice rubbed her the wrong way.

“Screw you.” Fast as a snap, she jerked her elbow, smashing him in the jaw.

Blazing #BlogTour: A Witch’s Concern by N.E. Conneely

Author: N.E. Conneely

Narratora: Jeff Hays, Laurie Catherine Winkel

Series: A Witch’s Path, Book 4

Length: 7 hours 25 minutes

Publisher: N.E. Conneely

Released: Jan. 16, 2018

Genre: Paranormal, Supernatural

Michelle has been figuring out what her life is like now that the demon has been killed, and Sylvia and Varro are dead. Even the clans of witches trying to attract her to their way of life have backed off and given her a chance to grieve. Her relationship with Elron is stronger than ever, but there are things left unsaid.

On the way to her parents’ wedding, the delicate calm she’d been living in is broken. Witches are out for her blood, her family is caught in the crossfire, and friendships are threatened. Work doesn’t let up either, and she partners up with Elron to deal with magic gone wild. Michelle finds that her problems are larger than one clan of witches, and is forced to choose between the people she holds dear and the way of life she loves.

This is the fourth book in a series, following A Witch’s Trial. It is a standalone novel, however, your experience will be greatly enhanced if you’ve heard the previous books.

N.E. Conneely lives in northern Georgia with her dog and a mountain of books. They sweat through the summer and freeze through the winter, and life as they know it comes to an end when so much as a single snowflake falls out of the sky. For fun, N.E. plays with her dog, reads, knits, crochets, paints, and does tie-dyeing and origami. She makes a great pizza and is currently negotiating with her husband about raising sea monkeys and growing a vegetable garden.

Narrator Bio

Jeff Hays has made a name for himself in the audio book world by creating immersive experiences out of his productions. His versatility and authenticity in voicing characters, expressive low-impact narration, and dedication to offering the highest quality audio possible has earned him a loyal following of listeners. Having been fascinated with sound since he can remember, Jeff takes his background of composing and producing music, and his continual consumption of the avalanche of fictional media we all experience in these modern times, and uses it to inform his style of story telling in the audiobook realm.

And now, having produced more than 80 audio books and perfecting his craft, using the namesake of his live streaming narration show, the Soundbooth Theater shingle has been hung. Soundbooth Theater is dedicated to applying Jeff’s production methods to new audio books with other budding narrator talent, and expanding his scope from audio books, to voicing and producing animation.

Narrator Bio

Laurie got into voiceover by studying with the legendary dialect expert Paul Meier and hosting the teen program for a nonprofit for the blind, Kansas Audio Reader. She speaks French fluently and, before diving into audiobooks, lived and performed for some time in France. She’s racking up some bizarre credits, playing a range of characters onscreen from Disney princesses to horror scream queens, and proving her audio versatility by narrating everything from cowboy romances to action-packed GameLit fantasy trolls. You can also catch her in a few VR video games. Her favorite is playing confident, power-hungry, whip-smart anti-heroines.

Like Jeff Hays, she hails from the Kansas City area but currently lives in Atlanta.

Q&A with Laurie Catherine Winkel
  • How did you wind up narrating audiobooks? Was it always your goal or was it something you stumbled into by chance?
    • Well, I was encouraged to do so by my professor, Paul Meier, who I had no idea was a big name in the audiobook world for his dialect coaching and founding the IDEA archives. I kind of stumbled into it later when I was asked to audition for a program called Kansas Audio Reader in college, which was a specialized radio broadcast for the blind. For three years I ran a program reading YA books for blind teens. I had no idea it was going to be so relevant to my life.
  • Did you find it difficult to “break into” audiobook narration? What skill/tool helped you the most when getting started?
    • Because I had unknowingly gained all that experience in nonprofit, and training in my acting work, I found the performance pretty accessible. What was throw-your-headphones-at-the-wall infuriating was all the tech! I am not a tech-savvy person, and learning even the basic specs of audio recording was a huge struggle. When troubleshooting one of my first home-recorded books, I spent so much time on internet forums that my eyes dried out and I got a twitch. But there’s a lot of help available on the internet if you ask the right questions.
  • A lot of narrators seem to have a background in theatre. Is that something you think is essential to a successful narration career?
    • I think a theatre background is an excellent addition to any performance-based career. You simply won’t get the same depth from acting into a vacuum all the time. Speaking into a microphone feels like that to me — we are our own directors, coaches, and engineers.
  • What type of training have you undergone?
    • I studied with Paul Meier, one of the top dialect coaches in the world. I have a BA in theatre from the University of Kansas. And I’m always taking acting classes. Any serious actor should never stop learning and coaching.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for narrating?
    • Honestly, I get burned out vocally before mentally. I have to take breaks and rotate with other projects.
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • Absolutely. I have to drive a lot, so I cycle between about a dozen audiobooks and podcasts at any given time.

Publication date: March 27th 2018
Genres: LGBTQ+, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Syl’s a princess of the fair Fae.

Her girlfriend Rouen is a princess of the dark Fae.

Mortal enemies. Girlfriends.

Relationship status: It’s Complicated

All introverted geek girl Syl Skye wants is to get close to her girlfriend. But when you can kill with a simple touch, a normal date night’s not really in the cards. As it happens, Syl is also a sleeper-princess of the fair Fae. Last year after a freak accident, her power Awakened, granting her white flame to purify the darkness.

Rouen Rivoche is that darkness—a dark Fae princess whose power to bewitch mortals is as terrifying as the violet lightning she controls. Rouen is Syl’s total opposite. Her mortal enemy.

She’s also Syl’s beloved girlfriend.

And even though they joined forces to defeat the evil Circuit Fae who harnessed the killing magic in technology to take over the school…that was so last year.

Now, Syl’s touch could mean Rouen’s death. Her increasing power is spiraling out of control, threatening to burn down everything she and Rouen have built together.

Their lives, their love, their very world..

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / Google Play / iBooks

Excerpt:

In this scene from Rouen’s POV, Syl’s bee taken into OverHill, the land of the fair Fae, against her will by Prince Aldebaran, who forced her to put his torc (his ring) on.

Sunlight sears into me—pure sunlight from OverHill—and I stagger away from it, all my dark Fae instincts instantly hitting critical mass. I cloak myself in shadows, shielding myself against the killing heat and brightness. Already, my skin is starting to smoke. Still, I draw the line at hiding behind my bike. No way.

If something fair Fae is coming into this alleyway, I’ll meet it head-on.

Especially if it’s Aldebaran.

Shielding my watering eyes, I face it, steeling myself.

A silhouette appears in the brightness. I clench my fists, ready to beat Syl’s location out of Prince Fancy, ready to beat him for daring to take her in the first place.

The figure staggers and then stumbles, falling unceremoniously into the alley. I see a flash of grey eyes, a cascade of red curls—

“Syl!” I go to her, scoop her into my arms. The sunlight washes over me, the sting instant, then amping up to a burning, searing pain across my body. With a growl, I pull us both back into the shadows.

Syl is almost limp in my arms, her grey eyes open and dazed.

Ancestors, she’s been faestruck! I brush the hair from her face and pat her cheek lightly, hoping to break the spell. Her left hand feels hot as it brushes my thigh, but I pay it no mind. Of course she’s hot. She just came out of OverHill.

No, not came out. Tore out.

I try not to panic at that thought of Faerie bleeding, try not to let my mind go wild. What did Aldebaran do to her? “Syl…Syl…” I shake her gently, cradling her.

You should have been there to protect her, Roue.

“R-Rouen?” She blinks, her eyes clear, and then she throws her arms around me and pulls me close, trembling.

I’ll kill him. Murder lairs in my heart, but she’s my first concern. I wrap my arms around her, allowing us a long moment before pulling away. “Did he hurt you? Syl?”

“No… Yes… He…” She shakes her head, bites her lip, her eyes filling with tears.

I’ll kill him twice.

I can feel her, hot from Summer, her power right at the surface. I can’t risk touching her again. “It’s okay. Whatever happened, I’m here now.”

“Rouen, I…”

Sunlight flares into the alleyway again.

“He’s coming.” Syl’s face is stamped with hurt and fury.

“Oh, he is, is he?” I stand up. “Good. I can’t wait.”

She gets up, turns her back on the sunlit portal, and meets my gaze. “Rouen.”

Okay, all this calling me by my real name is starting to freak me out, but I don’t show it. I need to be strong for her. “I’m here.”

“He…” She holds her left hand up.

That’s when I see it. Aldebaran’s ring. No, his torc. On my girl’s hand.

In the mortal realm, the torc is just a ring. But in Faerie, it’s a sign. It marks his ownership of her, that she will eventually soul-bond with him.

And somehow, he tricked her into putting it on.

A low growl rumbles from my throat. “That dirty…” A torc binds two Fae. He won’t be able to control her with it, not like with a Contract, but she’s tied to him.

He’ll know where she is at every moment. He’ll be able to track her, stalk her…and other Fae? They’re supposed to recognize the torc as his claim on her.

Never. Rage sweeps over me so fast it leaves me shaking. Before, I was just going to kill him. Now? I’m going to eviscerate him. Slowly.

Once I get that damned torc off her.

Bombastic #BookBlitz: Whisper by Krystal Jane Ruin

Whisper
Krystal Jane Ruin
Publication date: April 3rd 2018
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal

Jade has been hearing voices since she was five. No, not voices. One voice.

After her twin brother is appointed vice president of their father’s company at the old age of twenty-two, the family starts falling apart. Her parents hate each other. Her brother is stressed. His girlfriend is a gold-digger if Jade’s ever seen one. And worse yet, it turns out she isn’t crazy-the voice in her head is real.

If she ignores it, it’ll drive her off a cliff, like it has done to every single woman on her father’s side for over 1000 years. If she listens, she’s told something terrible will happen.

The choice should be simple.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

Logan jokes loudly at the other end of the lobby, entertaining a group of men with lewd jokes and wild stories from their recent trip abroad. My sweet, idiot brother leans against the wall grinning over at him, his stupid gray eyes full of trust.

My leg bounces under my desk, spreading irritation through my body. There are no words for how pissed I am. I wish I could bring the ceiling tiles down on Logan’s head. My water bottle teeters in time with my agitation, and I clamp a hand over it to still it.

Of course, I could. Probably. But if my father suspected me of being responsible, he’d have me carted off in a straitjacket.

“Don’t worry about Logan. He will suffer. Come back and open the door.”

“How?” I force my eyes away from Logan and try to keep my voice low. No one is paying attention to me that I know of, but it’s awkward, talking out loud in an open space. For a second I wish the stupid voice could read my thoughts, but then I think better of it.

Honestly though, how crazy am I that the voice in my own head can’t hear me think?

“Sacrifice.”

“Yeah, you said that, but—” I cut myself off. David walks towards me with a small rectangular box full of padded envelopes.

He drops it on my desk. “This is for Juliane.” He speaks slowly and stares at me hard like he’s trying to read my mind. He caught me talking to myself, I know it. And likely not for the first time.
