Aheey Omnibus.jpgAhe’ey
by Jamie Le Fay
Genre: Epic Fantasy Romance
Release Date: March 8th 2017

Summary:

Morgan’s feminist books didn’t prepare her to deal with the dashing Gabriel and the land of Ahe’ey.

Morgan is a dreamer, change maker and art lover. She is a feisty, slightly preachy, romantic feminist full of contradictions and insecurities. Morgan uncovers a world where women have the power, and where magic is no longer just a figment of her wild imagination. Sounds like a dream, but it may, in fact, turn into a nightmare.

The world of the Ahe’ey challenges and subverts her views about gender, genes, and nature versus nurture.

The strong and uninvited chemistry between her and the dashing Gabriel makes matters even more complicated. His stunning looks keep short-circuiting her rational mind.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS

“A bracing mix of emotionally and intellectually honest fantasy.” – Kirkus Reviews

“This book is a thoughtful look at empowerment for women. At the same time, it’s a rollicking trip into a fantasy world complete with dragons, love and strength, and ideas that really get you thinking. This book is highly recommended for all ages.” – HUGEOrange

“They’re flawed, real, and honest characters that can be easily related to. Ahe’ey is the kind of novel society needs to read, to create inspiration and to make people think. Ahe’ey is daring, complex, and honest. A must-read novel that tackles heavy and real topics with a mix of serious and humorous, charm and tragedy.” – Reader’s Favorite – 5 Star Review

“Ahe’ey contains a richly imagined world that raises complicated and timely questions about our own.

Jamie Le Fay’s Ahe’ey is an action-packed love story that puts forth a nuanced vision of gender stereotypes, body politics, and the dark side of seeking perfection.” – Foreword Clarion – 4 Star Review

EXCERPT:

It took less than two minutes for Gabriel to knock on her door. “Surely you’re not considering going ahead with the outdoor event?” He spoke faster, and his pitch was higher than usual. “It’s much too dangerous. We have no way to control the crowd or prevent an attack. I can’t allow—”

“You can’t what, sir?” she said, raising her voice. She was furious. Her eyes were spears ready to be fired without mercy. “Who do you think you are, to give me orders?”

There was nothing he could say or do. This confrontation wasn’t about the event. She needed to show him that she was the agent of her own destiny and that he had no power over her.

“Morgan, don’t risk your life for anger and pride.” He lowered his voice and attempted to reason with her.

“Great advice from the person who placed my life at risk in the first place. Why don’t you go and do your job instead? Aren’t you supposed to be leading my security team? Do your job! Neither you nor the MRD will stop me from doing mine. I won’t allow manipulation or bullying.” Morgan’s tone was cutting, almost feral.

“I can’t let you risk your life,” his mouth twisted; his voice held a cocktail of frustration and desperation.

Blazing #BlogTour: Seeds Of Eden by A.P. Watson

Seeds of Eden
A.P. Watson
(The Concilium, #1)
Publication date: January 25th 2017
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Haunted by visions of the execution of an innocent man, Evey discovers that the secrets of her past and a mysterious stranger are irrevocably intertwined.

Visions of decapitated corpses, pools of blood, and a masked executioner have haunted Evey for as long as she can remember. Torn between a life in the waking world and dreams of the dead, she realizes her normal existence is nothing more than an illusion. As the veil between reality and her subconscious dissipates, she begins to question her own sanity. Each night as she closes her eyes, she wonders what wrongs she committed to warrant such a curse.

When a handsome stranger suddenly appears in Evey’s life, he is able to provide her with the answers she seeks. However, the only thing more mystifying than Conrad’s appearance in one of her nightmares is the undeniable attraction she feels for him. It is only when he confesses their fates and souls have been intertwined for centuries that an ancient secret is revealed. Now, the two of them must outrun a great darkness or it will claim their lives again.

EXCERPT:

“Everyone quiet down,” Mr. Rieder ordered. “Your book for the semester is already in front of you. Write your name in the front page and make sure you bring it to every class.” Mr. Rieder was a short plump man who was as round as he was tall. His black hair was littered with streaks of white, and his gold circular spectacles always rested on the tip of his nose. The way his mouth was shaped always reminded me of a turtle, as if at any moment his head might recede beneath his dark green sweater. “Now I want all of you to turn to page 256. We will be talking about the Spanish Inquisition today.” I flipped my book open and immediately began studying the first paragraph. “Read over that section while I go through the class roster. When you hear your name, please raise your hand so I can see who all is here.” I perused the page as he called out various names, barely hearing mine. My hand shot into the air for a second before resuming my reading.

“We’re going to start off talking about the two rulers of Spain who initiated the Inquisition.” He turned back around and started scribbling various dates and names across the white marker board. “Essentially, the purpose of the Spanish Inquisition was to punish converted Jews and Muslims who were thought to be insincere in their conversions. Authorities of the church instituted it, but it was under control of the Spanish monarchy. It was established in 1480 by Ferdinand the Second of Aragon and his wife Isabella the First of Castile. If you turn the page you can see a painting of Isabella in the top left corner.” I flipped the page over and glanced at the picture. The first thing I noticed was the pendant hanging around her neck. Its beauty perfectly complimented the delicate gold and pearl crown she wore. An ornate gown clung to her fair skin, making her appear every bit the queen she was. I could hear the door open and shut with a slam, but my eyes remained on the woman in the picture. Something about her seemed familiar to me, as if I were looking at a picture of an old friend whom I hadn’t seen in years. I was unable to tear my eyes away from her, even when Mr. Rieder announced that a new student was joining our class. “Class, this is Conrad Bourdet. He is a new student here at Tulson, so I want all of you to make him feel welcome! Where are you from, Mr. Bourdet?”

“Los Angeles.”

“Well, you certainly did come a long way from Los Angeles, but anyway, we’re glad to have you in our class! Why don’t you take the open seat in the back by Claire?”

Suddenly, Caroline elbowed me in the shoulder.

“Ouch! What was that for?” I asked, shooting her a glare.

“Because the most gorgeous guy that’s ever been to this school just walked into class and you’re staring at that stupid book!”

“You assaulted me over a guy?”

“Heck yes, I did!” she whispered. “Just look at him!”

I glanced up from my book, only to see Conrad’s back as he turned away from me. Claire stood in front of him, chatting flirtatiously. He had a deep, golden tan and short chestnut colored hair. He ran a hand through it, causing the brown locks to become slightly disheveled. As I looked at him, I noticed he had to be at least six feet tall, and despite his height, you could see the well-developed muscles in his arms stretching underneath the tight black shirt he was wearing. Confidence seemed to roll off him in waves, which was fitting because every girl in class was ogling him. I turned to see the notes Mr. Rieder had added to the board. When I put my pencil to my notebook, the point broke off, smearing a line of graphite across my white paper.

“Oh crap!” I said, muttering silent curses at my pencil. “Hey Caroline, my pencil just broke. Can I borrow one of yours?”

“I only have the one. I forgot to grab an extra out of the locker,” she whispered back.          “Sorry, Evey.”

“It’s okay. I might have something in my bag.” Before my hands could slide off the table, a voice stopped me.

“Here, use mine. I don’t really need it.” I followed the voice to see the new student leaning across the aisle, a pencil in his outstretched hand. My mouth fell open in surprise. The stranger from the gym now sat across from me. I appraised his features before settling my gaze on his bright blue eyes. They reminded me of a pair of brilliant sapphire earrings my mother kept in her jewelry box. “See something you like?” he asked with a wicked smile.

A rush of heat warmed the apples of my cheeks. “Don’t you need it to take notes?” He knew I was blatantly gawking at him, but at this point in time, I didn’t care. The prisoner from my dream wasn’t just a figment of my imagination. He was real, tangible and there was nothing to stop me from reaching out to touch him.

“Nope, I never take notes.” He reached even further. “Seriously, just take it.”

“Thanks,” I replied, stretching toward him. As we exchanged the pencil, something within me snapped and my fingers wrapped instinctively around his wrist. Conrad tugged on my arm gently, pulling us closer to one another. My free hand grazed the side of his cheek. He wasn’t a dream, he wasn’t a symptom of a mental illness; he was reality.

The job should have been easy—patrol a swank beach that serves as a backyard for Maui’s rich, kick out the riffraff, and get a tan in the process. But rent-a-cop Samantha Winters didn’t anticipate a deliciously grumpy cop, Sergeant Grady Roark, who comes down to the beach to bust her chops and instead leaves her breathless…and wondering why the one man who could help her seems determined to thwart her at every turn.

Grady is keeping secrets from Sam that have him walking the line between attraction and duty. But when Sam becomes the target of a shadowy organization, Grady will have to choose between the law and the temptation of a woman who has him breaking every rule he’s ever known.

The job should have been easy, but when the bullets start flying, Sam learns nothing is as easy as it seems when you’re a Gun for Hire.

Excerpt:

“The sunlight was intense after a half hour in that gloomy space, but I squinted hard and kept moving toward a narrow set of steps down to the parking lot. Grady walked a few paces behind me, and if he heard the crinkle of paper as I moved, he elected not to say anything.

Grady hit the remote to his truck and grabbed for the passenger side door, his hand light on my elbow as he helped me up. Paper crackled as my butt hit the seat and Grady’s eyes narrowed. Without a word, he slammed my door and went around to the driver’s side, climbing up into the cab and stabbing the keys into the ignition.

“So, I—” I hesitated as I shifted in my seat and my movement was accompanied by the distinct sound of cardboard bending.

“No,” Grady muttered, and clicked on the radio. “No talking.”

“But—”

“Shh.” Grady put a finger to his lips, his eyes still on the road. “Any minute you’re going to tell me about the felony crime you just committed. And then I’m going to have to deal with the fact that I was an accessory to a felony crime.”

“Umm, yeah.” I reached around to the back of my pants and eased the file folder up from my waistband, working it out slowly so as to not lose anything as Grady headed up the hillside toward his house. As I brought it around to look at it, the red block letters damning me to years of incarceration should I get caught, a muscle ticked in Grady’s jaw.

“You stole classified documents.” He shook his head from side to side.

I looked up at Grady and then down at the mangled file with the red Top Secret heading. I took a corner of the front sheet and ripped across the width of the page, separating the words “Top Secret” from the rest of the paper.

“They’re declassified now.” I crumpled up the classification and shoved it in my pocket.

Grady sighed.

I shrugged and opened the file.”

But when the Deviance Act is passed, Terrence’s life takes a turn for the worse overnight. Under the new law, a mere look, a simple touch, or a small kiss in public could mean death. Terrence attempts to hide his orientation to survive. That is until a gang attacks him in a bar and Chase Martinez interferes.

Chase is gorgeous, kind-hearted, and he’s a rebel in the Underground—all qualities that attract Terrence so much there is no stopping the fall. Loving Chase might be dangerous, but Terrence is done living in fear and letting others dictate what is right for him.

EXCERPT:

“D’you think your ma died so you could throw away your life wanting to be gay?”

I blinked fast. I hated it when he mentioned Ma. His words hit real hard. And he knew the force of the blow.

He slammed his hand on the table. “Look at me when I’m talking to you!”

I forced myself to glance at him, but his face was so distorted and his eyes slitting with rage, I couldn’t take his anger no more. I looked away and blinked at the stupid tears rising to my eyes.

“I don’t need no deviant for a son, you hear me? Been working my ass off so we could have a house. It’s not the best, I know, but it’s more than what most people have. D’you know the kinda filth some other people live in? Huh? You’d think you could at least try and make my life easier. But nooo. Terrence has gotta go out there and pretend he likes boys. Just to piss me off!”

“I’m not pretending—”

“Shut up when I’m talking to you!” He banged his hands on the table again and propped himself up, making me jump back.

MY DREAM CAST FOR BLACK BLADE

Books are amazing things because you don’t need to cast anyone. It’s one of the things that’s always stood out to me as important about the medium. Because of that, I don’t usually detail my characters or “cast” them, and when details about their personal appearances come up it’s always because they’re relevant to what’s happening in the story. I want to preserve the freedom of anyone to imagine any of my characters to be as much like or unlike them as they want.

That said, I understand why people like to talk about their “dream casts”. It’s a fantasy probably every author has shared at one point or another, sitting down and talking to a casting director about who they can get for the movie adaption, why you want who you want and why they’d be perfect.

Unfortunately, because of the approach I take to how characters look, and because I want my readers to have as much freedom as possible imagining them, I never “cast” anyone I write about, but I can talk about some influences particular performances have had on my decisions about those characters.

The clearest influence I can trace is for Lance, an adolescent malcontent and Black Blade’s “hero”. He whines, he judges, and he is a haver of wrong opinions. I’m sure you’re picturing him already, but I drew a lot on Shia Labeouf for this character, particularly his roles in all the Transformers movies. Please forgive me.

Next are the wizards (spoiler warning: there are wizards in this book), and they’re much harder to pin down to any specific actors. It’s essential that they are aloof, condescending (and in one case very angry), but I have a heard time narrowing their casting beyond the traditional stable of Very Serious British actors.

Last is Megan. Black Blade is driven by an obligation that forces the characters on a supernatural journey. If you think of the story of the book as the story of this quest, Megan is peripheral, or even irrelevant.

She’s really small, almost never confrontational, and almost never takes the initiative. She is (as far as I’m concerned) by far the most important character. Why haven’t I mentioned a cast yet, you might be asking?

The answer is the most important reason that we keep writing books: I’ve never seen an actress cast that would be appropriate for her, and there probably isn’t one for the simple reason that no executive or casting director would employ someone so “ordinary”.

We can write about whoever we want, people who could never be represented by any actor. Without that willingness to write about ugly, strange, ordinary people, we cripple ourselves creatively, so when you think about your “dream cast” while writing, please don’t forget that not all people are actors.

Guest Post From Adriana Kraft:

That first kiss with the person who turns out to be the love of your life. Do you remember yours? I sure do, but my personal history contains nothing resembling the sniping that’s been going on between English professor Cat Shanahan and carpenter Kurt Davis for the first two thirds of our newest release, Seducing Cat. They’ve been spitting bullets at each other.
They’re an unlikely pair: She’s 34, newly tenured at the college in the small town of Burntside Wisconsin, and author and director of plays at the community theater in town. Kurt’s 24, a high school graduate who teamed up with a buddy to create a construction company and is doing very well. He volunteers as a set designer at the theater, and Cat’s hired him to restore the century-old foursquare home she recently purchased.
That age difference quite possibly qualifies the novella as a Cougar Story, but it’s so much more than that. To seize the love affair of their life, both Cat and Kurt have some deep-seated prejudice to overcome: upper class disdain for people who work with their hands, and working-class mistrust of the highly educated. Since our own extended families are filled with both academics and blue-collar workers, we’re familiar with this scenario—and we know that the deep divide can sometimes be overcome in real life, as well as on the pages of fiction.
This five book series was originally released in 2009 by a different e-publisher. It’s been unavailable for over four years, and we’re thrilled Extasy Books has contracted to re-release it, completely revised and re-edited. In the meantime, Meg insisted we write one more adventure. The six books will release approximately every ten weeks. Watch for Book Two: A Woman for Zachary in early August!
By the time the excerpt below occurs, Meg and Cat are already lovers. Kurt knows this, but he’s made clear he wants no part of whatever crazy scheme Meg is up to.
~*~*~*~*~*~

BLURB:

Level headed English Professor Caitlin Shanahan has finally earned tenure and purchased the century-old two-story house of her dreams in the college town of Burntside, Wisconsin—at thirty-four, she’d better face facts: her future is teaching college and writing plays, not falling in love. So why is she so drawn to foxy little hometown actress Meghan Keenan, who’s rented her upstairs apartment, or worse, to the girl’s gorgeous hunk of a lover Kurt Davis, a carpenter who’s never even been to college?

Twenty-year-old Meg has a plan. First she’ll seduce the reluctant professor, then she’ll share her sexual delights with both Cat and her brawny carpenter, and when she’s successfully brought them together, she can make her escape and explore what’s beyond the only town she’s ever lived in.

Kurt can’t stand the up-tight professor who’s hired him to build a gazebo and refurbish her old house—the house he wanted for himself. Even if Meg’s scheme succeeds, he knows Caitlin would never look at him twice. No need to go there in his fantasies…

Excerpt:

Seducing Cat Mild Excerpt

Wringing clammy hands, Cat stood in the small production booth behind the opening night audience. Openings inevitably made her anxious. There seemed no way to prevent it. This was her favorite place to watch the show, because from here it looked as if the cast performed only for her. Besides, no one bothered her when she was in the booth.
The first act had been superb. Meg had the crowd in the palm of her hand, hanging on every word and responding to every gesture, and yet she had a way of not stealing the show. The cast performed well together.
During intermission, Cat had visited briefly with cast members, giving them words of support before returning to the safety of her booth. Successful opening nights were so exhilarating, and this was one of those.
She startled when the door to the booth opened and closed quickly.
“Thought I’d find you here,” Kurt said softly, squeezing into the tight space to stand behind her. “She’s good, isn’t she?”
Cat could barely make out his outline in the dark and quickly returned her gaze toward the stage. His physical presence took up so much of the tiny booth she feared suffocating. “She’s superb. Meg should be in New York. Look at her work the crowd, and they don’t even know it.”
“She has a way about her, all right.”
“She’s a blend of mystery, innocence and eroticism.” She wanted to take back her words as soon as she heard them.
“Ah.” Kurt’s breath heated her bare neck. “She’s all of that, all right.”
“Do you suppose she’ll ever take the next step?”
“Maybe. If she’s supported enough. She’s more insecure about her acting than she lets on.”
“I know. I’ve been trying to help her with those insecurities.”
“I’ve heard. And I gather she’s helping you with some of yours.”
Cat’s heart skipped a beat. She should bite his head off for that comment. But she was suddenly in a joyous mood as the crowd gave the cast a standing ovation. She squealed, “Yes! They loved it.”
“Did you think they wouldn’t?”
“I never know what to think until it’s over. I better get out there.” She turned around quickly and slammed against Kurt’s solid chest. She caught herself on his shoulders, then suddenly felt his arms holding her steady.
In the dark, she couldn’t tell if he was smiling or scowling. And then he brushed his lips across hers. Her breathing stopped.

Blazing #BlogTour: The Dragon Orb by Mike Shelton

The Dragon Orb tour banner

dragon orb coverThe Dragon Orb (The Alaris Chronicles #1)
by Mike Shelton
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Date: March 1st 2017

Summary from Goodreads:

The fate of a kingdom rests on the shoulders of three young wizards who couldn’t be more different.

Bakari is a brilliant scholar wizard who’s more at home in a library than a battlefield. Alli is a beautiful young battle wizard whose grace in battle is both enchanting and deadly. Roland is a counselor wizard with a seemingly limitless depth of untapped power — and the ego to match it.

As the magical barrier protecting the kingdom of Alaris from dangerous outsiders begins to fail, and a fomenting rebellion threatens to divide the country in a civil war, the three wizards are thrust into the middle of a power struggle.

When the barrier comes down, the truth comes out. Was everything they were taught about their kingdom based on a lie? Will they all choose to fight on the same side, or end up enemies in the battle over who should rule Alaris?

The Alaris Chronicles Praise:

The first book of the Alaris Chronicles series brings a refreshing take on magic and politics in fantasy. The world feels very much alive as the wizards take on their new challenges, struggling with their personal demons as much as those of the land they are expected to protect. For people wanting a fantasy kingdom-based read that is more sorcery than swords with a depth of intrigue that goes well beyond blood and debauchery, The Dragon Orb is a solid new entry in the genre.” –Self-Publishing Review

The Dragon Orb is full of magic and adventure, and a way for younger readers to get a peek into the world of politics. The book is a strange combination of a Dungeons and Dragons adventure with Game of Thrones, but with kids as the movers and shakers of the story — and with a PG rating. It is a very easy read, a page turner. I love the fact that the protagonists of this story come in all colors, shapes and sizes, and that our leads are not your usual all-white characters. As mentioned before, the world our characters inhabit borrows from already established fantasy folklore; from Lord of the Rings to the Wheel of Time series. The biggest innovation on these series by Mr. Shelton is the inclusion of how politics work (hence the Game of Thrones reference), but accessible for a younger audience.” –  Erika Grediaga for Readers’ Favorite

“Dragon Rider is packed with action, adventure and a well-thought fantasy world. In a sort of collage of a wide variety of fantasy literature, from Lord of the Rings to The Wheel of Time, Mike Shelton goes into the ugliness of power and politics in a very interesting way, creating this type of introductory and age-appropriate version of Game of Thrones for kids. I think any tween or teen, from age ten on, would love to immerse themselves in this world of treason and power, where children are the ones who hold everyone in check.” – Readers’ Favorite

About the Author

AuthorMike was born in California and has lived in multiple states from the west coast to the east coast. He cannot remember a time when he wasn’t reading a book. At school, home, on vacation, at work at lunch time, and yes even a few pages in the car (at times when he just couldn’t put that great book down). Though he has read all sorts of genres he has always been drawn to fantasy. It is his way of escaping to a simpler time filled with magic, wonders and heroics of young men and women.

Other than reading, Mike has always enjoyed the outdoors. From the beaches in Southern California to the warm waters of North Carolina. From the waterfalls in the Northwest to the Rocky Mountains in Utah. Mike has appreciated the beauty that God provides for us. He also enjoys hiking, discovering nature, playing a little basketball or volleyball, and most recently disc golf. He has a lovely wife who has always supported him, and three beautiful children who have been the center of his life.

Mike began writing stories in elementary school and moved on to larger novels in his early adult years. He has worked in corporate finance for most of his career. That, along with spending time with his wonderful family and obligations at church has made it difficult to find the time to truly dedicate to writing. In the last few years as his children have become older he has returned to doing what he truly enjoys – writing!

Blazing #BlogTour: Black Dawn by Mallory McCartney

Black Dawn
Mallory McCartney
Published by: Clean Reads Publishing
Publication date: February 14th 2017
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult, Young Adult

The end of an Empire. The rise of a Queen.”

Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life that is until two mysterious, and dare I say handsome soldiers show up at her apartment doorstep and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Coming from the magical and ravaged world of Kiero, Emory is brought back not realizing that both men are darkly woven in her past. Discovering she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line Emory is thrown into Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne. With both lives clashing Emory uncovers hidden secrets from her past, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.

Some things are better left in the shadows.

EXCERPT:

His face darkened, seemingly lost in memory. “There was a student—Adair Stratton. We all attended school here together, but he grew to be ruthless, and above all else, power hungry. He killed your parents. He tore apart everything they had built, and he was about to end the bloodline with you. We were best friends. Brokk and I couldn’t lose everything, and under the circumstances, you asked us for help. You asked us to save you. Brokk has the ability to travel through channels of time and as you are aware, our world is full of surprises. We left you on Earth stripped of everything you stood for…but you were alive, and you were safe.”

Unaware that her mouth had been slightly ajar for the last minute, she shook her head. “You mean to say that I have fallen into a modern fairy tale? I was the royal princess whisked away, and you and him have brought me rightfully home to… to what? To fight in an epic battle? To restore harmony to the land?”

A glint shone in Memphis’s eyes as a stillness settled over him. “You have no idea how much has been lost over the last six years. People have been slaughtered by the thousands because Adair didn’t deem them powerful or useful. Families and homes forever broken. We have been trying to build our numbers to stand up and reclaim what is ours. You always have been and rightfully are our leader. You have always been the key.”

She looked around carefully at the surrounding people for the first time since coming there. Most of them were young, but there was no excessive talking, no laughter. They kept on task…whatever that might be. It was very military and echoed a hollow life. It would explain the dreams. Her life back on Earth had been empty as well. Brought up in an orphanage, she had few friends. She had taken care of herself until she came of age. She had always wanted more. Why shouldn’t she accept this life as her own?

“If this is true, will I start to remember them—I mean my family? My past?”

Now it’s five years later and Calliope’s gone from fat to fit in a year-long transformation with a world-renowned self-help guru. EXCERPT:

“Even without the mask you wouldn’t know me. Social media and I have never gotten along.

But times they are a-changing, and today, I share my journey with the world.

In a nutshell, I’m here because my guru guide told me to be.

Ha! Bet you’ve heard that one before.

This. Me. It’s all part of my new direction. A part of saying good riddance to the past and beelining toward the future as a different person.

A new person. Radically new and determined.

It’s a road trip. So either hop in and be a passenger, or steer your own vessel alongside me …”

Pause.

Double check mask is still on straight. Its black filigree surrounds my eyes in an elegant frame. A sharp and sassy Venetian disguise. It’s me, but not.

My long auburn streaked locks are swept up and knotted behind me, and my lips are coated in the most radical shade of lip tint I could find: Glam it All to Hell. I’ve always been a Soft Plum or Barely There kind of girl, but neither of those seemed to fit the mystique veil of anonymity quite like a candy-apple red shade. Perfectly radical.

Good. Deep breath …

“In case you don’t wanna ride along with a complete stranger, here are some things you should know about about me upfront:

Not too long ago … well, for pretty much all my life, I daydreamed about being that girl—you know, the one guys stumbled over themselves to talk to. The one other girls tried to copy in front of their mirrors. I put the idea of it on a pedestal for so long, I’m not even sure it’s reachable anymore. Or if it even ever matters.

It’s never been about vanity.

It’s about certainty. Confidence in my health, and in who I’ve let myself become. Confidence in the way I know others see me, notice me. Not being invisible. Not being a disappointment.

After reading Rouby’s book, Roadmap to the Radical New You, I took the wheel of my own life.

Now, I’m here, in front of you, 72 pounds lighter, to let you know you can do the same thing. If you’ve been wanting to make some positive changes in your own life, then I’m here to cheer you on.

If I can do it, you can do it.

It won’t be easy at first. There’s a learning curve, and a hump. And this is coming from someone who’s never had problems with taking tests.

Those first few weeks of radical change were the most difficult in my life …”

Pause.

Stare at keyboard. Memories of labored breathing, aching muscles, tears of failure … all of it cycles through my mind.

Regain concentration.

Almost done. Have to power through.

Eyes on screen again, on the masked chub avenger in front of me. Only eyes, lips, and chin are visible. Perfect.

Carry on …

“To be frank, I didn’t know if I’d have what it takes to stick to Rouby’s Roadmap. During that first month, when I exchanged brownie bites and frappuccinos for leg lifts and power walks, I discovered what Rouby calls, my Cruise Control.

And let me tell you once you find it—I mean really know that you can have it—it changes everything.

No more distractions. Or excuses. Just a lot of hard work, and steady steering.

I was overweight all through high school. I tried to lose it, over and over,  failing each time and devastating my self-esteem. I was a hot mess on repeat play.

Rouby helped me understand what I was doing wrong. I was starting from the outside, trying to transform my appearance with diet schemes and workout routines that were unrealistic to my personal needs. I was skipping the most vital step in Rouby’s full transformation program—the step that’s key to changing the way a person sees themselves:

 Cleansing from the inside out.

If you haven’t read Rouby’s Roadmap to a Radical New You, buy it today. After I implemented his inner program, I discovered his at-home Radical Makeover Intensive course called, Radical Roadtrips.

It’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re not serious about transformation, this course isn’t for you.

Someday I’m gonna find a way to meet Rouby and walk right up and wrap him in a giant hug. Here’s why …”

I hold up my before and after full body profile pictures, side by side. The head is chopped off so it’s only from the neck down, both with me in black form-fitting workout pants and top.

“See. The me on the left is two years ago when I first decided to do something about my health and appearance. The me on the right was taken yesterday. Pretty dramatic, right? Yeah, it gives me the willies every time I see these.

You may be wondering why I’ve chosen to be incognito. Why I don’t show my face or tell you my name …

And that’s a story for another day. What’s important now is the how, not the who.

I’m only three months away from my final transformation, so I’m making a pact with you right now, right here on my very own YouTube channel that if I make it through the next few months and reach my goal, I’ll reveal myself. I need your support in getting there, because my too-fragile ego depends on it.

I don’t think it can take another blow.

Besides that, for anyone who does complete the Roadtrip course, Rouby says a special surprise is in store …”

My candy-red lips catch my eye onscreen—the way they pull upward in a genuine smile upon my masked face. A tiny thrill of what has to be a combination of pride and bewilderment sails over my scalp.

“I’m taking life by the wheel, and when I get where I’m going, I will be transformed …”

Pause

“I’ll be back after Sunday, when my course classmates meet online for a webinar to hear Rouby speak. If you didn’t know, he has an entire team dedicated to helping his Roadtrip students stay on track. There’s even personalized Curbside Assistance in the event of a mental breakdown. He’s so amazing.

Well, I guess that’s it for me today. You’re tuned into channel, RadNewMe. I’m Rad, and I’ll see you next time. Until then, I’ll leave you with my current stats:

WEIGHT: 130 lbs

WEIGHT LOST SINCE ROADTRIP BEGAN:  72 lbs

GOAL WEIGHT:  120lbs

HEALTHY SNACK OF THE DAY: low fat peanut butter on apple slices
