To have and hold, love and cherish, til death do us part…

Small town Sugargrove, Texas is unlike anything Iris has ever experienced. Foreboding, dark, and sensual, the enchanting Juliet academy lures Iris with hopes of discovering who she really is. Making friends and meeting people, she delves into the treacherous world of her surrender. But when she encounters Salvatore Raniero, the sexy alpha male ignites her in unimaginable ways, haunting her every thought and showing her a new kind of high.

As she learns Sal is more than the mischievous sexual provocateur of Juliet, revealing a composed and thoughtful side, Iris wonders what else is hiding behind his mesmerizing ebony, emerald eyes. Pushing her into an even deeper erotic journey, Iris soars with her newfound freedom in the collar.

The secrets unfurl as the web of lies continues to grow, and Iris realizes she is not the girl she once was. Trapped between a lonely past and an unknown future, she is left with the daunting task of deciding what she truly desires and who she wants to obey.

The Initiation
Kailee Reese Samuels
Publication date: April 20th 2015
Genres: Erotica, Romance

Five years ago, Sal Raniero was a loyal son and responsible friend. Giving everything he had to his family and friends, he was on his way to becoming the man everyone expected. But he harbored a dark secret.

He needed pain…a lot of pain.

With his masochism searing through his veins when the offer is put before him to push his servitude further, he cannot resist. Between praying and playing on his knees, he is confronted with the last thing he expects.

His heart.

Torn between becoming the golden boy of Juliet and just another guy with a fetish streak, he makes a decision that will chart the course for the rest of his life.

Take the journey with him and discover what made the boy into the man.

THE INITIATION is part of Kailee Reese Samuels’ series of novellas. Scenes from Juliet are all new companion books to Juliet. These are not excerpts from Juliet, but further glimpses into the characters, backstory, and behind-the-scenes. While they can standalone, they would be better enjoyed with the preliminary reading of Juliet.

Author Interview:

  1. How long have you been writing?

I have been writing since the age of five, starting with poetry and evolving to short stories. I am old school and have scraps of paper with ideas everywhere – old envelopes, receipts, and napkins. If the idea comes, it doesn’t matter what it gets written on. I keep a black sharpie next to me and write important notes on my hand.

  1. Where did your love of storytelling come from?

I have a vivid imagination and I think my storytelling stems from there. Being an only child, I spent a lot of my childhood alone in the backyard in my make believe and pretend world.

  1. What was the hardest part of writing this book?

The hardest part of writing Juliet was listening to the characters. Sal and Iris have a volatile, love-hate relationship. They start as friends, and their relationship grows as the story expands. They are passionate about one another in all aspects, despite how they do not always communicate well with one another. I really wanted to take a snapshot – in words – of that twenty-something time period in our lives when we don’t even know who we are or what we want. Juliet focuses on the journey of keeping that love alive through growth and change.

  1. What inspires you?

I am inspired by music and really just living day-to-day. I have built entire stories around one song or a visit to a convenience store. Though playing one song over and over all day might be construed as a little crazy. Smiles.

  1. Who inspires you?

I am inspired by all kinds of people – my family, friends, and even strangers can inspire that perfect character. I have pages of notes written on total strangers who affected me in some way. The inspiration of my main character Sal is my own suave Italian, but my entire family has supported and stood vigil beside me while I focus on my writing and publishing.

  1. What are some day jobs that you have held?  If any of them impacted your writing, share an example.

I am a mom of three beautiful boys that I have been blessed enough to homeschool. The oldest two – 23 and 20 – impact my writing frequently. While they haven’t read Juliet, they are aware of the story. My firstborn writes as a hobby, and his mom is hoping – crosses fingers – that he will one day publish. The twenty-year-old is also blessed with the writing gift, but right now he prefers to get his hands dirty in old cars.

  1. What do you like to read in your free time?

I read a lot of new adult, romantic suspense, and dark erotica.

  1. Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?

I try to write between 2-4k per day. Some days less, some days more. I have come to a place where I am secure enough in my writing that I know if I need to take an extended break that I can easily pull up my internal writerly voice. It’s a very refreshing, calm place knowing that you can complete a story. New writers don’t always trust themselves; I know I didn’t. It used to be the norm for me to get stuck and quit the story. I had to learn what it took for me to work it through and complete it.

  1. What is your favorite motivational phrase?

My favorite motivational phrase is really just two words – don’t quit. It started out several years ago when we were adopting a baby from China. I said we wouldn’t quit until they told us no, fighting for what we loved and believed in. There are a lot of similarities in achieving that goal as well in publishing.

  1. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Laughs. I could say don’t quit, but that isn’t the best advice. The best is to forgive yourself. Allow yourself to make those mistakes – edits, book covers, misunderstood ideas – and learn from them. This isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon – pace yourself and by all means, have fun and write passionately!

Thank you so much for these great questions!!
