Blurb From Goodreads:

I didn’t know I was a shifter until the hunters found me…

When eighteen-year-old Beth receives a mysterious text from her deadbeat father not to go to school, why should she listen to him now? But when strangers show up in one of her classes hunting her and wanting her dead, she must uncover the truth about why and what exactly she is.

Amar has been entombed in stone for centuries. He longs for freedom and only the blood of a shifter will set him free. After centuries frozen as a gargoyle, he doubts there are many of his kind left. Yet, Beth rescues him and more than his responsibility to protect her fills him. He must choose between duty and love.

Before the race of hunters capture her, Beth and Amar must find her shifter dad in order to save all their lives.

My Review:

GIMME BOOK TWO NOW!!! This was quite the intense story and I want more! Ended up going to bed later than planned just so I could finish it. Running for her life with no idea why at first and then having to learn on the fly, I don’t think I could do it. I love the characters! Beth is the main one and since she has no clue the reader has no clue. Jacqui is her best friend and driver in their search for Beth’s dad. Amar (swoon) was a gargoyle that Beth accidentally brought back to life but no one’s really complaining about that lol. He’s also a guardian and has tasked himself with protecting Beth. Other than Amar, no one is really a shifter, it’s more of having superpowers that coincide with the spirit animal that is, I guess, living within the “shifter”. It’s somewhat hard to explain but the unique abilities because of the spirit animals was completely fascinating. They have characteristics, strengths and weaknesses that are specific to each animal, like cunning for a fox, speed for a cheetah, invisible tentacles for an octopus, and so many other interesting abilities. Then there are the bad guys and I don’t think we’ve even seen half of them which is also exciting since some are shifters and the others are… I don’t even know. They look human, well, not all of them. One was like this huge mass of tar or oil. Crazy stuff, I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
